Docia Munezero | From Survival To Governance
Docia Munezero is a Burundian journalist, activist, and entrepreneur dedicated to advancing women's rights, youth empowerment, and the promotion of Burundian culture. In 2015, she co-founded YAGA Burundi, now the country's leading youth-focused digital media platform, creating a space where young people engage in discussions on social, political, economic, and cultural issues. In 2020, following a U.S. government-sponsored training on Women, Peace, and Security, she founded Actions for Women's Rights (AWOR), an organization that empowers hundreds of Burundian women through vocational training, economic empowerment initiatives, and awareness campaigns on menstrual health, gender equality, and the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence. Beyond her advocacy work, Docia is also a filmmaker, writer, and media personality. She uses journalism, storytelling, and cultural entrepreneurship as powerful tools for social change, amplifying the voices of women and young people while celebrating Burundi's cultural heritage. Through every initiative she leads, she remains committed to fostering dignity, equality, and opportunities for women and future generations.
